Age related factors do play into the benefits of hip and knee replacements. In this video, we address some of the general points about being a younger person about to embark upon a hip or knee replacement. Whilst there are no set rules, we often now look at patient specific elements in determining when the correct age for a hip or knee replacement might be.

What is the youngest person you have done a joint replacement on?

I have a patient aged 21 who had a hip replacement. That is the youngest we have performed.

Have you not been able to perform surgery on someone due to age?

No, surgery can be performed at any age, however I have been unable to perform surgery on some patients, unfortunately, due to medical issues that precluded a safe anaesthetic.
