The Christmas period should be restful time for all of us – and this video is just to give you some tips during the Christmas break, especially if you are a patient of mine, undergoing surgery where the usual periods of followup are changed. This is a time where your 2 week post operative wound check will change, and there are many options!

Merry Christmas and happy new year from all of us at Orthopaedics 360 and Dr Chien-Wen Liew

How do I access more analgesia during the christmas break

Check your email – there is a link within the email you received around the 3rd day after surgery where you can request more analgesia. Please note that it can take a day for me to get this to you. It will come as an SMS that you can take directly to your pharmacy. If you find that you are running out, please request analgesia a day before you think you might need it to give yourself time to get someone to pick it up for you, or for you to go and pick it up as you will not be able to drive whilst on the heavier pain medications like Endone and Palexia.

When is my next appointment?

Jalmin would have scheduled you for around the 6-7 week mark post op. You are allowed to leave your wound dressing on for the entire time until your check up if you wish – as long as it is not wet. A dry dressing is very safe to leave on. If you are not sure, please SMS me.

When is my next Xray

Routine Xrays are performed at 3 months post op – we usually have an appointment then to check on things.

When should I see a physio?

In general, physiotherapy is an option, and you may have physio after the first few weeks. I would recommend that for hips, physio can start around the 6 week post op mark, and for knees, at the 8 week mark. Earlier physiotherapy can be utilised if you feel that you are not progressing as expected with range of motion or mobility.

What do I do if I'm worried about something with my recovery?
